Bayelsa State Gears Up for 2025 Budget

In a vibrant display of democracy in action, the Bayelsa State government has kicked off the process for crafting the 2025 budget, aiming to ensure that every citizen’s voice shapes the financial plans for the coming year.

On Thursday, September 5, Yenagoa, the state capital, buzzed with anticipation as the government hosted a pivotal town hall meeting titled “Citizens’ Public Interactive Session for the Preparation of the 2025 Annual Budget.” The event was a heartfelt invitation to the people of Bayelsa to come forward and contribute to the financial blueprint that will guide their state’s future.

Leading the charge was Mr. Flint George, the State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning. With enthusiasm and determination, Mr. George underscored the importance of this session, stressing that the goal was not just to hear from the public but to integrate their hopes and concerns directly into the budget. His words were clear: this is about making the government truly “all-inclusive.”

During his welcoming address, Mr. George reflected on the successes of past public engagements. He pointed to the tangible results from the 2024 budget, such as the completion of Glory Drive and enhancements in Science and Technical colleges, as examples of how citizen input has already made a significant impact.

Professor Nimibofa Ayawei, Secretary to the State Government, echoed this sentiment with a promise of continuity. He reassured the attendees that under Senator Douye Diri’s Prosperity Administration, the 2025 budget would continue to reflect the genuine needs and desires of Bayelsa’s residents.

Professor Ayawei emphasized that citizen contributions are not just valued—they are essential. He described the public’s role as foundational to creating a budget that is both people-friendly and responsive to real needs.

The meeting also included a review of the current budget’s performance, presented by the Ministry of Finance. This report highlighted how the state has been navigating its financial targets, showcasing progress and accountability.

The session was a testament to the Bayelsa State Government’s commitment to transparency and participatory governance. It saw the convergence of commissioners, heads of ministries, state lawmakers, policy experts, traditional rulers, and other influential figures, all coming together to discuss and deliberate on the future of their state.

In essence, this town hall was more than just a meeting—it was a celebration of democracy, a call to action, and a reminder that in Bayelsa, every voice matters. As the state charts its course for 2025, it does so with the assurance that its budget will be a true reflection of its people’s collective aspirations and needs.
