The late Chief Achitect Piniki Azaiye Duwogbegha was laid to rest Thursday 10 October, 2024 at his hometown Oporoza amidst betrayalof emotions, even by the bravest of heart.
Tears flowed freely at the traditional and christian funeral service held at Oporoza, the traditional headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in honor of late Chief (Arch.) Azaiye Duwogbegha Piniki, the Ganpamowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom who died recently at the age of 56.
Chief Azaiye Piniki until his death was a renowned architect, distinguished Chief of the Gbaramatu Kingdom Chiefs Council, social activist who also fought for the employment of graduate Ijaw youths into the oil and gas sector; talent groomer who in a bid to fulfil his children dream, established an outfit to develop young talent in music and art; and great philanthropist who supported youths in their academic pursuit, business and career.
Oporoza was abuzz as hundreds of sympathisers throng the ancient community to pay their last respect to the purposeful architect and community advocate.
The christian service, officiated by Fire Faith Praise Mission, saw sympathisers and well wishers grieving openly and giving to the weight of the moment while reflecting on Chief Piniki’s lasting impact on their lives and the community. Even as others expressed how the unexpected and sudden death of Chief Azaiye has shattered thier lives.
In his emotional tribute, Mr Alfred Piniki, elder brother of the deceased described the late Azaiye as a dependable brother, whose demise compounded his state of sorrow, as it occurred when he is needed the most by his family and friends. Alfred however asserted that the family would take solace in the fact that he lived an impactful life which will remain evergreen in the heart of everyone who has crossed part with him.
The saddest, tensed and most emotional part of a funeral was when the casket is being lowered into the ground at his final resting place, triggering
heightened emotions insurmountable grief, confusion, anger and fear.
Chief Piniki Azaiye Duwogbegha (PAD), who hails from Okerenkoko community in Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, is survived by two wives, seven children.
