The entire Tonlagha Family of Benikrukru Community in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State is set to commemorate the 28th Remembrance of their late patriarch, Late Sgt. Oweiyegha Rowland Imoun Tonlagha, with a series of memorial events slated for Friday, November 8, 2024.
Sgt. Tonlagha, who passed away 28 years ago, was the father of Matthew Tonlagha, popularly known as the “Prince of the Niger Delta,” a prominent Nigerian billionaire and the Chairman/CEO of Maton Engineering Nigeria Limited, among other great children.
A public invitation, signed by Elder Emmanuel Tonlagha on behalf of the children, as well as Chief Paris Imoun and Hon. Shedrack Otuaro for the family, outlined the planned events.
The day is billed to begin with a remembrance service from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a “Night of Tributes” starting at 8 p.m., which will continue through the night. The memorial is expected to draw friends, relatives, and well-wishers from across the region to pay homage to the late patriarch’s life and legacy.
Sgt. Oweiyegha Rowland Imoun Tonlagha was a respected figure who served Nigeria with distinction, leaving behind a significant legacy that continues to be honoured. His influence endures through his children, who include notable individuals like Capt. Rowland Tonlagha; Capt. John Tonlagha, the Executive Commissioner for Health, Safety, Environment, and Community at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC); Engr. Michael Tonlagha; Matthew Tonlagha; and Mr. Victor Tonlagha, among others.
The upcoming memorial offers a moment for reflection on the late Sgt. Tonlagha’s service to the nation and his unwavering commitment to the principles he held dear. His family remains dedicated to upholding those values, continuing to make significant contributions across various sectors in Nigeria.
The event is expected to attract prominent dignitaries from across the niger delta and beyond in a show of solidarity with the Tonlagha family.
