Flooding: NDDC building emergency shelters for IDPs

Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, MD/CEO NDDC

Following the spate of flooding in the Niger Delta region, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr Samuel Ogbuku, has revealed that the Commission is constructing six multi-purpose emergency shelters in Bayelsa, Delta, and Rivers states.

He stated that the shelters aim to provide relief to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the event of flooding in the Niger Delta region.

Ogbuku gave the hint when he led the NDDC management team to visit Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State in Government House, Yenagoa.

The NDDC helmsman noted that the project also aims to provide comprehensive support to affected communities with basic facilities.

He noted that facilities at the emergency shelters would include essential amenities such as a school, hospital, cafeteria, police post, and recreation centre, providing comprehensive support to the communities in times of distress.
