The Bayelsa State government has officially prohibited street trading in Yenagoa, the state capital.
The ban was ordered by Governor Diri and communicated through Brig. Gen. Eric Angaye (rtd.), the State Coordinator of the Bayelsa State Community Safety Corps.
The enforcement, led by Bayelsa State Volunteers Chairman Hon. Oyinkuro Lucky Asanakpo and Vigilante Services Chairman Hon. Doubiye Alagba, began on Tuesday in collaboration with security agencies.
Hon. Asanakpo emphasized that street trading poses serious risks, particularly to women and children, and will no longer be tolerated in the state capital.

He added that criminal hideouts were raided during the operation, leading to several arrests, with suspects handed over to the Magistrate Court situated in Ovom, Yenagoa.
The agency has vowed to intensify crackdowns on crime, warning that anyone arrested will be swiftly prosecuted.
