Mothers from the Niger Delta region has called on the Bayelsa State government to see to the needs of the Academic Union of Universities (ASUU) NDU Chapter so as to allow students resume their academic activities without further delay.

Perturbed over the prolonged strike which has entered its third month due to the state government’s failure to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on October 30, 2024, the mothers made the plea in Ikorodu, Lagos State at the weekend shortly after the Niger Delta Governors Spiritual Deliverance Service Day organised by Comrade Joseph Evah, the National Coordinator of the Ijaw Monitoring Group (IMG).

Speaking to our correspondent, the mothers urged the Bayelsa State government and the ASUU to sheath their swords and let reasons prevail to settle the lingering crisis.

Worried about the negative consequences of the strike, the mothers expressed that the students have spent too much time at home doing nothing. This, according to them, could lead them into vices.

“As mothers we are touched and concerned about the plight of our children and their educational needs which ought to be taken more seriously by government,” The said.

Carrying banners with various inscriptions, such as ‘NDU IS DYING IJAW ELDERS BEG GOV. DIRI TO SAVE NDU FROM DYING’, ‘NDU LECTURERS STRIKE 2024 TO DATE, OUR GOVERNOR WHERE IS YOUR HUMAN FACE?’, AN IDLE BRAIN IS THE DEVIL’S WORKSHOP, DOUYE DIRI RETURN OUR CHILDREN TO CLASS.
