Celebrated writer and author of GASP, Theresa Ebi Tobuyei from Bayelsa State is set to launch her highly anticipated mystery and crime thriller entitled “The Man Called Elizabeth Martins” along with its long-awaited sequel, WEBBED.

The author in a press statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Yenagoa, said the book will be released in May 2025, adding that the compelling novel pledges an electrifying journey through power, justice, and the dark forces that shape destinies.
According to her, the book “The Man Called Elizabeth Martins tells the tale of Oweilade Martins a once-accomplished lawyer whose life took a drastic turn after his mother falls victim to his wife’s treachery.

“His world shatters, exposing him to a relentless tide of enemies determined to crush him. As Owei fights to stay afloat, he becomes entangled in a web of betrayals—a sham marriage, a treacherous brother, paternity fraud, and vengeful schemes and an enraged public demanding his downfall.
“No matter how hard he fought back, the forces against him only grew stronger. He was disbarred, bankrupted, and sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit.
“Yet, even as he awaits execution, one obsession consumes him: winning the upcoming presidential election. But just as he devises a plan for survival, a shocking revelation emerges—letters written in his mother’s hand suggesting that she might still be alive. To reclaim his life, Owei must confront the past, beginning with the murder that started it all.
“Isabella Martins on the other hand is a woman consumed by jungle justice and vigilantism. Driven by an unyielding thirst for revenge, Isabella transforms from being a victim to an executioner, carrying out her own form of justice against those she deems unworthy of mercy.
“But as the lines between justice and vengeance blur, she becomes entangled in a dangerous game—one where power, fear, and retribution collide with devastating consequences.”
The statement also hinted that “The Man Called Elizabeth Martins” delves into the complex intersections of power, morality, and survival.
Theresa, in the press release, said the novel is set primarily in the notorious fictional prison facility of Agrigriba, and paints a portrait of a man navigating the brutal realities of incarceration while grappling with the weight of his past.
In her words: “Through a gripping and suspenseful narrative, the Bayelsa-born author, Tobuyei, explores themes of betrayal, parental abandonment, power struggles, and the irreversible consequences of jungle justice and vigilantism.
“The novel forces readers to confront the uncomfortable question: where is the fine line between justice and lawlessness?”
With penetrating storytelling and a bold narrative, Theresa Ebi Tobuyei delivers yet another literary masterpiece that not only mirrors society’s complexities but also challenges readers to reflect on their own perceptions of justice.
The new novel will be available in bookstores and all online platforms upon publication.
