The Henry Seriake Dickson Foundation (HSDF) has awarded a total of ₦14.8 million in educational support grants to 148 students from Bayelsa State currently enrolled in the Nigerian Law School for the 2023/2024 academic session. Each beneficiary received ₦100,000 to ease the financial burden of legal education and support their journey towards becoming barristers and solicitors of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

This initiative, spearheaded by the founder of the Foundation and former Governor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, reflects his continued commitment to education and human capital development in Bayelsa State. Senator Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, congratulated the recipients and encouraged them to view the grant as more than just financial aid.

In his message to the beneficiaries, Senator Dickson stated:

“This grant is a token of my support. I urge you all to strive for excellence in your studies and to carry the torch of Bayelsa with pride. Whether in politics, governance, the private sector, or professional and corporate spaces, I encourage you to represent our state honourably. These fields need your presence, your voice, and your brilliance, especially as our people remain significantly underrepresented in many of them.”

The HSDF Law School grant has become a hallmark of Senator Dickson’s broader educational empowerment agenda. Over the years, the Foundation has consistently supported students in tertiary institutions, professional schools, and other academic pursuits, reinforcing his belief that education remains the most powerful tool for sustainable development and social transformation.

This year’s disbursement reaffirms the Foundation’s role as a leading light in educational philanthropy in Bayelsa State. It also serves as a call to other public-spirited individuals and organisations to invest in the future of the region through similar initiatives.

The recipients, drawn from various communities across Bayelsa State, expressed profound gratitude to Senator Dickson and the HSDF for their timely support and pledged to uphold the values of discipline, dedication, and distinction in their legal careers.
