The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, in the Niger Delta region, Dr. Dennis Brutu Otuaro, has charged Nigerians, particularly the Ijaw ethnic nationality, to recognise their roots by embracing their cultural traditions.
The Administrator gave the charge at the Father Igologolo Temple in Saimuzu-Ama, a spiritual holy worship land in the Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, on Wednesday, September 12, 2024.
Dr. Otuaro participated in the potent spiritual ceremony with High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, the High Priest of Egbesu, Aziza Deity and a spiritual head of the Ijaw people.
Ijaw Heritage Television report that, Otuaro, who is a proud traditionalist, noted that many of the social problems facing the society especially the Ijaw Nation is caused by the disconnect to culture and tradition. He stressed that there is a need to preserve culture as real progress starts with an appreciation and respect for one’s historical past.
Dr. Otuaro, who holds the traditional title of Ibe Uyadonwei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, lamented that Nigerians have lost touch with their culture and tradition. A development he asserted has greatly hurt their identity and sense of belonging.
The Amnesty Helmsman who expressed delight over the massive turnout at the religious service, took his time to pray for Nigeria’s unity and peace, especially for the Niger Delta region. He seized the opportunity in reassuring participants of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dedication to the Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that the development and well-being of the Niger Delta will continue to be a top priority for the present government.
Otuaro’s attendance at the religious event which had hundreds of traditional religious devotees, underscored the profound importance Ijaw people have for their traditional ways of life.
