There was widespread celebration across Burutu Local Government Area on November 21, 2024 as the Executive Chairman, Dr. Julius Takeme, officially commissioned a new branch of First Bank in the local government headquarters.
In his address, Dr. Takeme recalled his campaign promise to establish a bank in Burutu, a commitment he proudly fulfilled with the commissioning. He emphasized the importance of the bank’s presence, saying, “Gone are the days when our people had to travel long distances for basic banking services. Now, we can all conduct our transactions right here in Burutu.”

He added that this initiative aligns with the M.O.R.E. agenda of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevoweri, emphasizing his Excellency’s commitment to good governance and better service delivery for the people.
Chief Fidelis Tubotu, speaking on behalf of the Burutu community, expressed deep gratitude to Dr. Takeme for making the bank’s establishment a reality. He highlighted that for over 30 years, following the closure of UBA due to the Ijaw-Itsekiri crisis, Burutu people had to travel to Warri for banking, a costly and inconvenient endeavor. “Today, we are no longer burdened by that travel,” he said, reflecting the joy and relief of the community.
Mrs. Ebifemere Ozobosor, President of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), also praised the council chairman for his leadership. She noted that the opening of the bank is a significant boon for the people, especially women engaged in various businesses. “This is truly a blessing for the women of Burutu,” she stated.
The management of First Bank expressed their gratitude to Dr. Takeme for his pivotal role in bringing the bank to Burutu. They assured the people that the branch is now fully operational and ready to serve with a full range of banking services.
Highlight of the occasion was the opening of a new bank signified by the cutting of the ribbon by Dr. Takeme and first banking transaction carried out by the Burutu council Boss alongside the Vice Chairman, Chief Mrs. Georgina Evah, who also completed her own transaction
