The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Dr Dennis Otuaro, has congratulated the Founder of the Esther Matthew Tonlagha Foundation, Mrs Esther Tonlagha, on her conferment with an Honorary Doctorate of Science (D.Sc) Degree in Community Development and Empowerment by the Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State.
Mrs Tonlagha, wife of Engr. Matthew Tonlagha, a renowned Ijaw businessman with extensive interests in oil and gas and engineering solutions across various sectors, received the award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to community development and empowerment.
The honour was conferred during the maiden combined convocation ceremonies of the university held on December 8, 2025, at Otuoke.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Igoniko Oduma, Dr Otuaro described the conferment as a fitting testament to Mrs Tonlagha’s unwavering commitment and dedication to grassroots development through her foundation.
He hailed her as an amazon and a philanthropist with a large heart, whose selfless service to humanity continues to resonate across the Niger Delta and beyond.
According to the PAP helmsman, the honour was well deserved, given her bold antecedents and consistent record of service, expressing optimism that the recognition would further inspire her to do more for society.
Dr Otuaro noted that he was not surprised by the honour bestowed on Mrs Tonlagha, whom he described as a devout Christian that has consistently prioritised service to humanity.
He also commended the management of the Federal University, Otuoke, for recognising Mrs Tonlagha’s selfless service, life of sacrifice, remarkable achievements, and the impactful work of the Esther Matthew Tonlagha Foundation.
