Otuaro, Igali, Guwor, Pere Kalanama VIII, Kestin, others for Ijaw Media Conference

Special dignitaries including the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr Dennis Otuaro; former Nigerian Ambassador to Scandinavian countries, Amb. Dr Godknows Igali; Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; the Pere of Akugbene-Mein Kingdom, HRM Pere Luke Kalanama VIII; and several other notable Ijaw leaders are expected to attend the second edition of the Ijaw Media Conference being organised by the Ijaw Publishers Forum (IPF).

The conference, scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, 2025, will hold at the KFT Event Centre, Warri, with the forum extending an open invitation to the entire Ijaw Nation to participate.

Dr Otuaro will chair the conference, a role organisers say underscores the event’s emphasis on policy engagement, accountability and sustainable development in the Niger Delta region.

In a statement jointly signed by Pastor Arex Akemotubo and Mr Tare Magbei, chairman and secretary of the conference planning committee respectively, the IPF said the theme of the event, “Safeguarding Niger Delta’s Natural Resources for Future Generations,” highlights the urgent need for responsible management of the region’s land and waterways.

Amb. Dr Igali will deliver the keynote address, while Engr. Udengs Eradiri, former President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), is slated to present the lead paper. The duo are expected to drive discussions on environmental sustainability, governance and the critical role of the media in development advocacy.

Rt. Hon. Guwor will attend the event as Special Guest of Honour, alongside other prominent personalities from public service, traditional institutions and civil society who will serve as Guests of Honour.

Among them are Mr Lethemsay Braboke Ineibagha, Managing Director of Vettel Mega Services Nigeria Limited; Prof. Benjamin Okaba, President of the Ijaw National Congress; Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri, President of the Ijaw Youth Council; Hon. Spencer Okpoye of DESOPADEC; Dr Paul Bebenimibo, Registrar of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko; Chief Boro Opudu, Chairman of Delta Waterways and Land Security; and Chief Promise Lawuru, President of the Egbema Brotherhood.

HRM Pere Luke Kalanama VIII, who is also the First Vice Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, will serve as Royal Father of the Day, while Chief Tunde Smooth, the Bolowei of the Niger Delta, will be the Father of the Day.

The IPF noted that the conference will convene journalists, policymakers, community leaders and researchers to foster informed dialogue and collective action towards the protection and sustainable development of the Niger Delta for future generations.
